Privacy Policy

Almost Solved respects your privacy. This policy explains how information is handled when you use the Almost Solved iPhone or iPad app, visit AlmostSolved.com, or contact us for support.

Free access and Full Access purchases

During onboarding, you may choose any three complete Research Files from the full catalog. Those three Research Files and their saved work remain available permanently without Full Access.

Full Access is provided only by a verified Apple non-consumable purchase, an active Apple App Store subscription, or an eligible StoreKit introductory offer. Apple determines offer eligibility and shows pricing and terms before purchase. Full Access purchases and subscriptions are handled by Apple.

1. The Almost Solved app

No account required

You do not need to create an Almost Solved account or provide your name, email address, phone number, or payment information to use the app’s core research features. Full Access purchases and subscriptions are handled by Apple.

Information stored on your device

Almost Solved may store the following information locally on your device:

  • Research Files
  • Source links, destinations, and source labels
  • Search terms and case context
  • Personal notes and timestamps
  • Manual listening status, such as Want to Hear or Finished
  • Timeline selections and progress
  • Recent in-app activity
  • App settings and podcast-provider preference
  • Optional Local Learning information

This information supports Research Files, Find It Again, timelines, saved links, notes, and personalized on-device suggestions. Almost Solved does not sell your Research Files, source links, notes, searches, or app activity.

Optional iCloud Sync and Handoff

iCloud Sync and Handoff are optional and off by default. If you enable them, Apple may process the information needed to synchronize supported Research File state or continue a supported activity across your Apple devices under Apple’s privacy practices.

App Lock

If you enable App Lock, iOS may use Face ID or the device passcode to unlock the app. Almost Solved does not receive or store your biometric data.

Local Learning

Almost Solved may offer optional Local Learning to improve suggestions based on activity inside the app. Local Learning is disabled unless you allow it. Its information is stored on your device, and you can disable Local Learning and reset its saved information in Settings.

Network requests and podcast searches

Almost Solved uses internet connections to find podcast metadata, load available source details, and open outside destinations. Podcast search terms may be sent to Apple’s iTunes Search API or Apple Podcasts so Apple can return matching results. Apple and network providers may receive standard connection information, such as your IP address, as part of these requests.

Podcast titles, publisher information, dates, episode links, and artwork may come from Apple or the relevant publisher. Apple handles information under Apple’s Privacy Policy.

Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and outside sources

Podcast destinations open outside Almost Solved in Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or the web. Automatically generated Spotify destinations may be searches rather than exact episode links and are labeled that way in the app. Almost Solved does not require Spotify login and does not read Apple Podcasts or Spotify playback history, position, completion, queue, or account data.

Websites, blogs, news pages, official records, and other web results also open outside Almost Solved. Once you leave the app, the outside service may collect information under its own privacy policy. Review an outside service’s privacy policy before providing personal information to it.

Information saved for a source breadcrumb

Almost Solved may save information needed to help you retrace a user-initiated source visit, including:

  • The exact link you opened or added, or a clearly labeled starting search URL
  • A source title, provider, or label
  • The search or case context
  • A timestamp or return time when available
  • The Research File connected to the visit
  • A listening status, timestamp note, or other note you personally provide

Almost Solved does not automatically fetch or store full third-party articles, podcast transcripts, social-media post bodies, or podcast audio. It does not inspect activity inside Safari, Apple Podcasts, or Spotify.

Share Extension

If you choose Almost Solved from another app’s share sheet, the extension receives only the item you explicitly share and information you enter in the extension. A shared item may include a URL, short user-confirmed text, image, screenshot, or PDF. The extension shows the destination Research File before saving.

No advertising tracking

The Almost Solved app does not use third-party advertising networks, sell app activity for targeted advertising, or request permission to track you across apps and websites owned by other companies.

2. App data retention and deletion

Information stored locally remains on your device until you delete it, reset the applicable feature, or remove the app. You can delete individual Research Files, links, or notes using in-app controls and can disable and reset optional Local Learning.

Removing the app generally removes information in its local app container. Copies may remain in device or iCloud backups managed through your Apple settings until those backups are replaced or deleted.

3. The Almost Solved website

AlmostSolved.com is hosted by Shopify. When you visit the website, Shopify may process IP address, browser and device information, pages visited, cookie or similar technology information, approximate location derived from IP address, and information needed for website security and operation.

4. Contact and support information

If you use the website contact form or email us, we may receive your name, email address, optional phone number, message, device or app details you provide, and attachments you choose to send. We use this information to answer your request, troubleshoot problems, maintain security, and comply with legal obligations.

Please do not send passwords, financial information, government identification numbers, private records, graphic material, or sensitive information about another person.

5. How information may be shared

We may share limited information with service providers only when needed to operate the website, provide support, maintain security, or comply with the law. These providers may include Shopify; Apple for App Store, iTunes Search, Apple Podcasts, iCloud, device, and operating-system services; an outside podcast provider you choose to open; and email or support providers.

We may also disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with applicable law, respond to valid legal process, protect users, investigate security concerns, or defend our rights. We do not sell Research Files, notes, searches, or other information stored locally by the app.

6. Security

We use reasonable administrative and technical measures appropriate to the information we handle. No method of storage or internet transmission is completely secure. Avoid sending sensitive or confidential information through ordinary email or website forms.

7. Children’s privacy

Almost Solved covers real true-crime subjects and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Contact us if you believe a child has sent personal information so we can review and delete it when required.

8. Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights concerning personal information held by us or our website providers, including access, correction, deletion, portability, restriction, objection, withdrawal of consent, or an appeal where applicable. These rights may be subject to legal limitations and identity verification.

For information processed directly by Shopify, you may also use the Shopify Privacy Portal.

9. International processing

Shopify, Apple, and other service providers may process information in countries other than the country where you live. Their handling of information is governed by their respective privacy policies and applicable transfer safeguards.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when the app, website, legal requirements, or privacy practices change. The updated policy will appear here with a revised “Last updated” date. Where legally required, additional notice will be provided.

Your choices

You can keep optional iCloud Sync and Handoff off, choose whether to enable App Lock, remove saved local work from inside the app, use Restore Purchases in the app to recover qualifying Full Access purchases, manage or cancel an Apple subscription in Apple Account settings, and contact support about privacy questions. AlmostSolved.com does not sell or activate Full Access.
